NBC Tonight Show - The Fruitcake Lady
Marie Rudisill is a fiesty 92 year old southern bell who tells it like she
sees it. She started out on the Tonight Show showing Jay Leno and
actors like Mel Gison, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Tom Cruise how to make
fruitcakes. But it was soon discovered that her views on life were more entertaining than her fruitcakes were. So "Ask The Fruitcake Lady" was born and has become the most popular feature on the show. Segments
are taped in central Florida on a Sony 600 Digi Beta and she's miked
with a Countryman lav through a Lectrosonics wireless system.

NFL Films / NFL Presents - Tiger Woods
Had to get up at 3:30am and drive two hours for this one. A 6am call
for a 7am hit. And we kept being reminded that we start sharp and have
Tiger for exactly 20 minutes. 2 Sony HD 24p cameras with one 16mm
Aaton with an 800 foot mag (so to not have to change mags in the
middle of the interview). I was to run two channel feeds to the two
Sonys and also record double system to my Fostex PD4v2 DAT for the
film camera. And I was told that to save time and keep things simple, to use double 416s overhead, so those had to be built. All that in less than
an hour. On top of that, the interviewer would be our supreme leader,
Steve Sabal, president of NFL Films. Just as we got everything in
place and faxed out, in walks Tiger. He was extremely nice and right
at 20 minutes, he was out the door to do the first of two commercials
he was shooting that day. No pressure!

Andrew W.K.
Just finished doing an EPK (Electronic Press Kit) interview with one
of the nicest rock artists I've ever met. I'd not heard of the kid and he
was in town doing a small club but he's turning heads with not only his
music, but his attitude. And the fans have noticed. He'll stay at a venue
until the last fan has gone through the line to meet him or ask for an autograph. He'll go out and talk with fans before and after the concert,
and he'll even call fans and ask what they think of his songs. Wow,
nice guy rock and roller. I was impressed, and that doesn't happen
often!

NBC Discovery Kids - Jeff Corwin Unleased
World traveler and animal adventurer Jeff Corwin, known for his
Animal Planet shows, had his debut this moring on NBC Saturday
Morning. We shot a day in July with Jeff in the Everglades doing his
standups and intros for the show. Jeff is a no nonsense guy who knows
his animals and is quite the professional, especially working with wild
beasts. One of the highlights of the day, which you won't see on the
show, was when Jeff was working with a large snake which had just
eaten the day before. During the course of doing numerous takes with
the snake, it regurgitated it's meal, which was a rat, and Jeff now had
thrown up rat all over him. It did not smell good! Shot in HD wide
screen, doubled miked with a Tram Lav through a Lectrosonics 190
wireless system, run into my Sound Devices 442 mixer, along with the
Sennheiser 416 boom mic on track two as a backup.

NFL FILMS / ABC Sports
This was a fun one. We did an interview with Tampa Bay Bucs Head
Coach Jon Gruden as he watched the footage of himself filmed during
the Super Bowl. He got a big kick out of watching himself. It will be
shown during the halftime for ABC's Monday Night Football. A two
camera shoot on Sony HD 24P double miking with a Sennheiser 416
boom and a Tram lav.

NFL FILMS - Bucs vs Jags Preseason Game
Tampa's last home preseason game saw NFL Films presence big time.
Using three sound recordists, we had six wires out including on both
head coaches and on four quarter backs. Plus we were using a new
way to send IFB feeds to all the camera operators which could be
switched by us on the fly when the quarterbacks swapped out. I was
told that Films had never done all of this during a game (previously
done during the filming of Hard Knocks). Sorry I don't have a photo
of the rig but it was quite a sight!
